I’ll start by saying this place is cool. The atmosphere, people, dogs (Scooter in particular) are all very laid back, straightforward folks.
This is a private launch site and requires a 5 dollar donation. Plenty fair as they have a nice ramp area with ample, safe and secure parking.
It’s immediately on the Withlacoochee River and from this site, it’s a 2.5 mile paddle to the delta on the Gulf of Mexico with little to no shoreline homes. The entire paddle either direction puts you in a no wake zone (seasonal for some portions) There’s a good chance you’ll be paddling faster than the powered boats. Head inland and you’ll always be off someones back porch but it’s still a peaceful paddle on a wide, quiet river. This portion of the Withlacoochee river is very much a tidal zone. With the right flow, wind etc. the 2.5 mile trip in a slower kayak or lesser experienced paddler can often be a real workout. Time it right with the tides though and you can really make some wakes.
They have a small store on site serving food, wine, beer. Campsites, kayak rentals are also available.
